Romanian soprano Anita Hartig is one of the most highly sought-after opera stars today. During her studies at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj Napoca, she won several national and international vocal competitions, and made her debut as Mimì in La bohème at the Romanian National Opera in 2006. From 2009-14 Anita was a member of the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper, where she made her international debut as Musetta (La bohème). During her time in Vienna, she showcased a number of prestigious roles in house including Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Mimì, Marzelline (Fidelio), Micaëla (Carmen) and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro).

Anita has performed in some of the most important opera houses in the world, including the Bayerische Staatsoper, Kanagawa Kenmin Hall Tokyo, the Megaron Concert Hall Athens, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Monnaie Brussels, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Opéra national de Paris, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and the Metropolitan Opera New York, and with renowned conductors including Adam Fischer, Franz Welser-Möst, Bertrand de Billy, Daniele Rustioni, Carlo Rizzi, Dan Ettinger, Daniel Oren, Mark Elder, Marco Armiliato and Ivor Bolton. In early 2013 Anita made her Royal Opera House debut as Mimì in John Copley’s renowned production of La bohème under the baton of Alexander Joel. The following year, Anita made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera and Opera Bastille as Mimì, before going on to make her house and role debut as Violetta (La traviata) at Gran Teatre del Liceu. 

Highlights of recent seasons include Violetta in Michael Mayer’s new production at the Metropolitan Opera, Micaëla at the Wiener Staatsoper and San Francisco Opera, Susanna at the Metropolitan Opera and Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra) at the Metropolitan Opera, Mimì at the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro Real Madrid and the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and further appearances at the Metropolitan Opera as Lìu Turandot. Other stand-out performances include Marguerite (Faust) at the Wiener Staatsoper and Hamburgische Staatsoper, Antonia/Stella (Les contes d’Hoffmann) at the Metropolitan Opera and concerts of Bruckner’s Mass in F Minor with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. She has also performed at the Royal Opera House, Muscat as Micaëla and took on the role of Marguerite in Faust at the Zurich Opera House. Anita Hartig recently made her debut as Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Metropolitan Opera, and could be heard again in this role in a new production of the Zurich Opera House.

Highlights of the 2023-24 season include her return to Metropolitan Opera New York in a revival of La bohème, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, and her role debut as Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) with the Orquestra et Coro RTVE in Madrid under the baton of Christoph König. In the 2024/25 season, she sang concerts of Puccini’s Opera Le Villi with the Munich Radio Orchestra under the baton of Ivan Repušić, whereby a CD was also produced. At the Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca she could be experienced in a Gala concert, as well as in Gala performances of La bohème, followed by her long awaited role debut as Tatjana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugen Onegin. Among others, she will return to the Met in New York as Donna Elvira in Ivo van Hove’s production of Don Giovanni next season.

Highlights waren außerdem Marguerite (Faust) an der Wiener Staatsoper und der Hamburgischen Staatsoper, Antonia/Stella (Les contes d’Hoffmann) an der Metropolitan Opera und Konzerte von Bruckners Messe in f-Moll mit dem Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra im Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Anita Hartig stand darüber hinaus am Royal Opera House in Muscat als Micaëla auf der Bühne und übernahm am Opernhaus Zürich die Marguerite in Faust. Außerdem debütierte sie als Gräfin in Le nozze di Figaro an der Metropolitan Opera und war danach in dieser Rolle in einer Neuproduktion am Opernhaus Zürich zu hören.
