Stéphanie Müther
– World management –
The dramatic soprano Stéphanie Müther portrayed Isolde to great acclaim at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in January 2025, under the baton of Sir Donald Runnicles. She first conquered the Wagnerian summit in 2018 as Brünnhilde (Die Walküre) at the Biwako Hall in Kyoto with the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, later completing Michael Hampe’s Ring cycle there with Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in 2019 and 2020.
Her Wagner credentials grew further with Götterdämmerung in Elisabeth Stöppler’s award-winning production for the Chemnitz Opera, honored with the German Theatre Prize DER FAUST. In Chemnitz, she also sang the complete Ring as Brünnhilde and appeared as Ortrud (Lohengrin).
She performed Brünnhilde in Peter Konwitschny’s Ring cycle at Theater Dortmund, which began with the premiere of Die Walküre in May 2022 and concluded with the rest of the cycle in the 2024/25 season. At the Dortmund Opera, she also made her role debuts as Turandot, Ortrud, and Tosca.
Her Bayreuth Festival debut came in the summer of 2022 as the Second Norn and Waltraute, where she also covered all Brünnhilde roles. She has sung Ortrud alongside Klaus Florian Vogt and Günther Groissböck at the Leipzig Opera, and upcoming engagements bring her back to the Spanish stage in Oviedo, where she most recently performed Ortrud in 2024.
Originally a mezzo-soprano, Müther appeared in roles such as Herodias (Salome), Fioretta (I Medici), and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) before transitioning successfully to the dramatic soprano repertoire in 2016 with her debut as Lady Macbeth at the Erfurt Theatre. Her honors include the Colette Mosetti Scholarship (2001), the Migros Prize, and the Bayreuth Scholarship (2013). She has collaborated with renowned directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Katharina Thalbach, and Vera Nemirova, as well as with distinguished conductors including Claudio Abbado, Mariss Jansons, Charles Dutoit, Gabriel Feltz, Cornelius Meister, Nicholas Carter, Patrick Hahn, Christoph Gedschold, and Joana Mallwitz.
She completed a master’s degree at the Geneva Conservatory, Neuchâtel campus, under the guidance of Jeanne Roth, and was a member of the Swiss Opera Studio from 2005 to 2007. In collaboration with Ion Buzea and Jeanne Roth, she continues to refine her current and future operatic repertoire. In addition, she devotes herself to Spanish vocal literature, which she explored in depth through her work with Teresa Berganza.
