Falk Struckmann

Falk Struckmann is regarded as one of the leading bass-baritones of our time, recently expanding his repertoire to include major bass roles with great international success.

 

This season, he takes on e.g. the role of Doktor (Wozzeck) with the Yomiuri Orchestra, conducted by Sebastian Weigle, and also performs it with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg. He will return to the Berlin State Opera as Daland (Der fliegende Holländer) and will sing the role of Hagen (Götterdämmerung) at the Vienna State Opera.

 

Struckmann’s career includes key roles in Wagner’s repertoire, such as the Dutchman, King Henry (Lohengrin), King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), and numerous roles in Der Ring des Nibelungen. His versatility extends to Jochanaan (Salome), Orest (Elektra), and Barak (Die Frau ohne Schatten), as well as Italian roles like Scarpia (Tosca) and Iago (Otello).

 

He began his career in Kiel and Basel before rising to perform at the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Royal Opera House, and the Vienna State Opera, which awarded him the title of Kammersänger. He frequently collaborates with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, and Riccardo Muti. His Bayreuth Festival debut in 1993 as Kurwenal was followed by roles in Der Ring and Parsifal.

 

Many of his performances have been released on CD and DVD.
