Daniela Köhler sings dramatic soprano roles and impresses audiences with her youthful charisma and strong stage presence. In the current season, she will make her debut at the Berlin State Opera in Richard Wagner’s Götterdämmerung and her role debut as Marietta in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt at the National Theater Weimar, as well as appearing in Der Rosenkavalier at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus.

 

Daniela Köhler opened the 2024/25 season with her role debut in the title role of Andreas Homiki’s new production of Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, followed by Kaiserin (Die Frau ohne Schatten) at Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam. Further guest performances took her back to the Bavarian State Opera, the Philharmonie Luxembourg, and the Müpa in Budapest.

 

In the 2023/24 season, Daniela Köhler made her house and role debut as the Empress in Katharina Thomas’ new production of Richard Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Cologne Opera. She also returned to Zurich Opera House as Sieglinde, where she had already celebrated her house debut with this role in Andreas Homoki’s new production of Die Walküre last season. She also made her debut as Sieglinde at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In the 2022/23 season, Daniela Köhler appeared as Senta in Herbert Fritsch’s new production of Der fliegende Holländer at the Komische Oper Berlin, as 3rd Norn in Götterdämmerung and as Jungfer Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier at the Semperoper Dresden, as well as Siegfried-Brünnhilde at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. She made her eagerly awaited debut at the Staatstheater Mainz as Salome in Richard Strauss’ opera of the same name and returned to Mainz in 2023/24 in the title role of Peter Cornelius Gunlöd. She already made her successful debut in Mainz in 2018 as Brünnhilde in Loriot’s humorous version of “Der Ring an einem Abend”, which she also repeated with flying colors at the Aalto-Theater in Essen and last season at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.

 

Daniela Köhler made a memorable impression on audiences and the press during her debut as Sieglinde (Die Walküre) at Oper Leipzig in 2018, after which she was invited back to Leipzig in subsequent seasons as Sieglinde and Brünnhilde (Siegfried). Since 2018, Daniela Köhler has also been a guest at the Bayreuth Festival, where she first sang all of the Brünnhilden roles in the children’s production of Der Ring des Nibelungen, and in 2019 took on the role of Sieglinde in Katharina Wagner’s production of Die Walküre under the musical direction of Markus Poschner while on tour with the Bayreuth Festival in Abu Dhabi. In subsequent years, she appeared in Bayreuth in the Festival’s regular productions as Helmwige (Die Walküre) and as Brünnhilde (Siegfried) in Valentin Schwarz’s new Ring.

 

Further guest appearances in recent seasons have taken her regularly to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and others.

 

Daniela Köhler has worked with conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Kirill Petrenko, Christian Thielemann, Markus Poschner, Axel Kober, Simone Young, Gianandrea Noseda, Alexander Soddy, Pietari Inkinen, Pablo Heras-Casado, Ulf Schirmer, Josep Pons and many others.
