Aksel Daveyan

Armenian baritone Aksel Daveyan is quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising voices of his generation. His recent and upcoming engagements include Marcello in La bohème at the Glyndebourne Festival, Albert in Werther at the Zürich Opera House, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly at the Baden-Baden Festival and with the Berlin Philharmonic, Giorgio Germont in La traviata, Ottokar in Der Freischütz, and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Oldenburg State Theater.

 

At the Zürich Opera House, Daveyan has previously sung Morales in Carmen, Dumas in Andrea Chénier, the Bass Solo in Stravinsky’s Les Noces, Sciarrone in Tosca, Un Paggio in Roberto Devereux, Un Console in Eliogabalo, and Il Maestro in Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma.

 

His concert and concertante opera appearances span numerous European stages, including the Georgian National Opera in Tbilisi, the Krakow Opera, Theatre Logos in Łódź (Poland), the San Lazzaro island in Venice, the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theater, and Teatro Politeama in Palermo. His operatic repertoire includes Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Il Conte (Le nozze di Figaro), Dr. Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Silvio (Pagliacci), Alfonso (La Favorita), Pierrot (Die tote Stadt), Yeletsky (Pique Dame), Robert (Iolanta), the Venetian Guest (Sadko), and the title role in Eugene Onegin.

 

On the concert stage, he has performed Mansurian’s Requiem at the National Centre of Chamber Music in Yerevan, Haladjian’s Missa de Lumine at Frankfurt’s Thomaskirche, Fauré’s Requiem and 7 Prayers at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, and Mansurian’s Hymnus Navapet at the Mendel Festival in Brno, Czech Republic.

 

Aksel Daveyan has garnered major recognition on the international competition circuit. He is the 1st Prize Winner of the Elena Obraztsova Competition in St. Petersburg, 2nd Prize Winner of the Queen Sonja Competition, and 3rd Prize Winner of the Opera Crown Tbilisi Competition. He also holds the 1st Prize from the Pan-Armenian Competition – Gohar Gasparyan and was awarded the Boghossian Youth Prize in 2020 (the Armenian President’s Prize).
