Dmitri Jurowski, the youngest representative of a renowned Russian musical dynasty, has conducted more than one hundred opera productions at many of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, the Opéra Bastille in Paris, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Opéra de Monaco, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. The operatic works of Wagner, Richard Strauss, Zemlinsky, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev have formed the core of his artistic repertoire. In 2010, he led the Bolshoi Theatre on its European tour with Dmitri Tcherniakov’s award-winning production of Eugene Onegin, conducting performances at the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, and the Lucerne Festival, among other venues.

Highlights of the 2026/27 season include a new production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore with the Associazione Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, Italy, a concert programme with the Fondazione Arena di Verona, and a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame at the Greek National Opera in Kallithea.

Among his recent successes are performances of Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, conducting the Gewandhaus Orchestra at the opening concert of the 2023 Mahler Festival with Weber’s Die drei Pintos, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at Teatro Regio Torino, and Korngold’s Die tote Stadt at the Semperoper Dresden.

In the symphonic repertoire, Dmitri Jurowski collaborates with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the Orchestra Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. Distinguished soloists with whom he has collaborated include Lang Lang, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Rudolf Buchbinder, Denis Matsuev, François-Frédéric Guy, Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov, Janine Jansen, Ray Chen, Sol Gabetta, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Andreas Brantelid, and Johannes Moser.

From 2011 to 2016, Dmitri Jurowski served as Music Director of the Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. From 2015 to 2022, he was Chief Conductor of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Born in Moscow in 1979, Dmitri Jurowski studied cello in Rostock before completing his conducting studies at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He subsequently continued his professional training in Italy, specialising in the Italian and Russian operatic repertoire. Since 2005, he has pursued an international career conducting both opera and symphonic repertoire. Alongside the German, Russian, and Slavic classical, Romantic, and early modern traditions, he is particularly committed to promoting the works of composers such as Korngold, Zemlinsky, and Schreker to wider audiences.
