Siegfried Jerusalem

After starting as an instrumentalist, German born Siegfried Jerusalem started his international career as a tenor.

 

In 1977 he appeared for the first time at the Bayreuth Festival. Since then he has continuously performed in Bayreuth. Siegfried Jerusalem made numerous recordings, for many of which he received the prestigious «Grammy» and other awards.

 

At the Bayreuth Festival, Siegfried Jerusalem gave his sensational debut as Siegfried in DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN in 1988. In 1989 he also appeared as Siegfried in GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. 1990 was the most successful year for Siegfried Jerusalem at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In the RING cycle he sang Loge and both Siegfrieds. This RING performance was broadcast on television. In 1993, he made his debut as Tristan at the opening of the Bayreuth Festival, a tremendous success leading to commitments at all important opera houses as Tristan for many years.

 

In 1997 Siegfried Jerusalem received the «Bundesverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse» (order of merit) awarded by the Federal President of Germany Roman Herzog.

 

Siegfried Jerusalems past projects include Aegisth in ELEKTRA in New York, London, at the Verbier Festival, Naples, Berlin and San Sebastian with the Westdeutscher Rundfunk as well as Herodes in SALOME in hamburg, Valencia, Tokyo, New York (Met) and Rome. Danilo in a new production of DIE LUSTIGE WITWE at the Berlin State Opera, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, and Aegisth at the Tanglewood Festival under James Levine.
