North Macedonian soprano Ana Durlovski studied at the Music Academy of the University of Skopje from 1997 to 2001. She made her debut at the Macedonian Opera in Skopje as Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, followed by appearances in opera houses throughout Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Albania. In 2006, she made her debut as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Vienna State Opera, a role she has also sung at the State Opera Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and Deutsche Oper Berlin.

From 2006 to 2011, Ana Durlovski was a member of the ensemble at Staatstheater Mainz, where her roles included Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Musetta (La bohème), and Manon (Manon).

In 2011, she joined the ensemble of the Stuttgart State Opera. Her portrayal of the title role in Bellini’s La sonnambula in Stuttgart’s 2012 new production was met with unanimous critical acclaim. Further important roles in Stuttgart included Morgana (Alcina), Folie (Platée), Sister Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), Zerbinetta (Ariadne), Violetta (La traviata), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Elvira (I puritani), and Norina (Don Pasquale).

At Teatro Real Madrid, she has sung Rosina in The Barber of Seville, the Queen of the Night, and Olympia. In October 2014, she made a highly successful debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as the Queen of the Night. Further engagements in the role have taken her to Baden-Baden with Sir Simon Rattle, the Bavarian State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, and the Bregenz Festival. In Dresden, she also appeared as Gilda in Rigoletto.

She made her Bayreuth debut in 2016 as the Woodbird in Siegfried and returned in 2017 for the same role. Among her recent successes are the title role in a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor in Graz in 2019, Marguerite in The Huguenots in Geneva in 2020, the title role in Handel’s Alcina at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg in 2021, and the Nightingale in Braunfels’ Die Vögel at Oper Köln in the 2021/22 season. More recently, she has appeared at National Theatre Mannheim as Marguerite in The Huguenots, at the Hamburg State Opera as Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, and in the title role of a new production of Handel’s Alcina at Staatstheater Darmstadt.

Following the success of that production last season, she will return to the Hamburg State Opera in the 2026/27 season for The Great Silence. She will also appear in the four female roles of Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta, and Stella in The Tales of Hoffmann in Münster, as well as in Basel in a stage adaptation of Ödön von Horváth’s comedy Himmelwärts.

Ana Durlovski also appears regularly in concert and recital and is a member of the Alea ensemble for new music.
