Among his recent successes, Romain’s staging of "La Gioconda" at Teatro San Carlo in Naples – featuring Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, and Ludovic Tézier – was a major triumph. This production is a co-production with the Gran Teatre del Liceu and will have its Barcelona premiere this season.
He has directed major opera productions such as "Carmen" in Rouen, Versailles, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Athens, and Dallas, as well as "Werther" in Bordeaux and "La Périchole" in Salzburg and Versailles. His work has been presented on stages including the Teatro Real Madrid and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, showcasing a truly international footprint.
The 2025/26 season promises exciting new projects, including his celebrated staging of "Die Zauberflöte" across Bremen, Dortmund, Hamburg, and Bucharest, and the highly anticipated "Carmen" at The Dallas Opera in October, starring Marina Viotti in the title role. This production is a co-production with Bru Zane France, Opéra Royal – Château de Versailles Spectacles, Opéra de Rouen Normandie, and Palazzetto Bru Zane, and it will also be presented later this season in Athens.

Recent productions include Wagner’s Parsifal (Tiroler Festspiele Erl) and The Flying Dutchman (Oper im Steinbruch St. Margarethen). ✨ Baltic Opera Festival in Sopot presents a new production of Strauss’s »Salome«, with concept and artistic supervision by Tomasz Konieczny, the Artistic Director of the Festival. Oleksandr Pushniak stars as Jochanaan, and Mateusz Ługowski appears as the First Nazarene. Performances take place on July 11 and 13, 2025.
