Egils Silins

– World management –

With his international opera and concert appearances the Latvian bass-baritone Egils Silins is one of the most sought-after singers in his field.


Current and future projects include Wotan in Die Walküre at the Hamburg State Opera, Wanderer at the Bavarian State Opera under the baton of Kirill Petrenko, Amfortas at the Zurich Opera House under Simone Young, Telramund at the Tokyo Spring Festival, the title role in a new production of Rubinstein’s The Demon at the Teatro del Liceo Barcelona, Holländer at the May Festival Wiesbaden, his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in Lohengrin under the baton of Christian Thielemann as well as Rheingold-Wotan, Amfortas at the Hamburg State Opera, Barak at the Berlin State Opera, Jochanaan with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Pizarro in Torino, etc.


Recent highlights include performances as Jochanaan at the ABAO Opera in Bilbao and at the Verbier Festival, Lysiart at the Dresden Philharmonic under Marek Janowski, Grand Prêtre in Samson et Dalila, as well as Heerrufer in Lohengrin at the Opéra de Paris with Philippe Jordan, Wanderer at the opera houses of Leipzig and Budapest, Holländer at the Teatro del Liceo Barcelona.


 In 2015- 2016 Egils Silins sang Holländer at Deutsche Oper am Rhein and ROH Covent Garden, Escamillo/Carmen at Hamburg State Opera, Mandryka at Cologne Opera, Wotan and Wanderer at Leipzig Opera, Tokyo Nomori Festival and Wagner Festival in Budapest, Pizarro/Fidelio at Vienna State Opera, Iago at Cincinnati Hall, Grand Prêtre at Opéra de Paris.


Egils Silins has appeared at the Royal Opera House as Jochanaan and as Holländer, at the Zurich Opera House as Prince Igor and Jochanaan, as Holländer and Wanderer at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Holländer at the Teatro Real Madrid, Amfortas at the Teatro del Liceo Barcelona, Klingsor at the Semperoper Dresden, Wotan and Wanderer in the Ring productions of the Opéra National de Paris, the Bavarian State Opera Munich and the Tokyo Nomori Spring Festival, Holländer at the Festival d’Orange, Telramund/Lohengrin at the NCPA Beijing, Wotan at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Scarpia/Tosca at the Staatsoper Berlin, Ring/Wotan-Wanderer at the Budapest Wagner Festival and the Tokyo Nomori Festival, Jochanaan/ Salome at the Ravinia Festival – Chicago, Amfortas/Parsifal at the New National Theater Tokyo.


He has won prizes at numerous international competitions, e.g. in Vienna “Belvedere”, Hamburg “Robert Stolz”, Barcelona “Francisco Viñas, Bilbao, Paris “Chant de Paris”, Toulouse and Washington. After permanent engagements at the Frankfurt Opera and the Basel Theater, he became a member of the Vienna State Opera.


At the 1997 Bregenz Festival, he enjoyed international success in the title role of Rubinstein’s opera “The Demon”. Since then, numerous engagements have taken Egils Silin to the most important international festivals and opera houses, including Glyndebourne, Savonnlina, London, Paris, Vienna, Milan, Brussels, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Berlin, Dresden Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Amsterdam, Zurich, St Petersburg, Barcelona, Madrid.


His repertoire includes more than 90 roles of the German, French, Italian and Russian genres. Among his most important roles are the title role in “Der fliegende Holländer”, Wotan/Wanderer in “Der Ring des Nibelungen” Klingsor and Amfortas in “Parsifal”, Telramund in “Lohengrin”, Jochanaan in “Salome”, Orest in “Elektra”, Barak in “Die Frau ohne Schatten”, Mandryka in “Arabella”, Scarpia in “Tosca”, Escamillo in “Carmen”, Germont in “La Traviata”, Sebastiano in “Tiefland”, Rangoni and Boris in “Boris Godunov”, the title roles of Eugene Onegin, The Demon, Méphistophélès in Gounod’s “Faust”.
